Generations at Agritopia®

Generations at Agritopia®, a planned unique senior living development within our community has taken a major step forward. On June 30, IPA Generations LLC bought the approximately 5 acres of land along Agritopia Loop (next to the Community Center) from Johnston Farms LLC. This makes way for the project to begin construction later this year.

Senior living has been a part of the Agritopia master plan since 1999 and is an important component in making our community one for all ages and stages of life. Just as Agritopia is not an ordinary community, neither is Generations. It is designed by the same architect that designed the homes in Agritopia and is designed to integrate into the community. Many senior living facilities are located on random parcels of land that have no connection with a community and the residents feel isolated and segregated. Generations is connected with existing pathways and faces onto the soccer field. It is our hope that the residents of Generations consider themselves a part of the Agritopia community as a whole.

Generations is 85,000 square feet and will have approximately 100 residential units. These include: independent living, assisted living, frail care, and memory care. We expect that as construction begins, there will be an on-site office where one may enquire about openings for senior family members.

Our comment is regarding the Generations Assisted Living Facility. We don ‘t see this as a good idea and we think it will take away the charm that area has now. We almost bought a cottage on Malabar, because we loved seeing the farm fields and all the open land. I’m glad we did not go through with that as I don’t want to look at a commercial building. Again, we think this move is a big mistake. It will totally take away the charm of the neighborhood and farm now. Very disappointed the family would do this to their residents.

HUGE MISTAKE…is not about the Agritopia Charm and concept anymore but about the MONEY the owner want to keep making….This comerial building will totally change he concep of Agritopia. From now on, Agritopia is JUST ONE ANOTHER SUBDIVISON IN AZ..nothing different or unique. WORST IDEA EVER!!!!!!

Though I am not an owner of a home in Agritopia yet, I am actively trying to buy within the next 90 days.

I take an exception to the previous comments about the commercial development of an assisted living facility on the Johnston family farm. Their vision of a “better lifestyle” could not be better displayed than through the vision, leadership and financial investment than what is displayed in Agritopia.

I have known hundreds of former farmers in the valley that sold their properties to home developers, banked their money and moved away. Not so with the Johnston families. They put their money to work creating an unique combination of an older life style when you knew your neighbors and could still watch the farm at work in a community where people appreciate their efforts. Well done to the Johnston’s!

Now it is up to the rest of us to let them develop their land as they wish. Personally, after living my life in an Agritopia home I like the idea of moving into an assisted living facility near the sights of those things I have come to love.
